Customer stories

The people this was built for.

Four people who import for different reasons, on different routes. What they have in common is that none of them has to ring anyone to find out where their things are.

Bisola Adewale

Bisi's Closet · Instagram store · Lagos

Bisola sells shoes and outerwear to about four hundred regular buyers on Instagram. Her stock comes from UK outlet sales, in batches of fifteen to thirty pairs, and the margin on a pair is thin enough that getting the landed cost wrong twice in a month wipes out the month.

The problem was never the shipping. It was that she could not tell a buyer when something would arrive, because she could not tell herself. A parcel would read "in customs" for nine days and then arrive, or read "in customs" for nine days and then need another four. Her buyers asked her; she asked the forwarder; the forwarder asked someone else.

Now she quotes from the estimator before she buys, so the duty is part of the decision rather than a surprise at the end of it. And when a buyer asks where their order is, she forwards the tracking link instead of promising to check.

“Before, customs was a black hole. Now I send my buyers the tracking link and they can see exactly which step their order is on. I quote prices knowing the duty upfront.”

Three more

Different routes, same promise.

One of these is a reseller, one is a son, one is a woman who was talked out of an import. The product is the same for all three: the price before you pay, and a message every time it moves.

Musa Ibrahim

Buying for himself · Abuja

“I sent one link and got one number back. No "plus duty on arrival", which is how I lost money the last time I tried this.”

Musa wanted a specific pair of headphones that no Nigerian retailer was carrying at a price he was willing to pay. He had tried a buying agent once before and been asked for an extra ₦40,000 at the door — the duty, which nobody had mentioned.

With Waybridge the quote came back itemised: item, shipping, duty, VAT, fee. He paid once, before anything was bought, and nothing was added afterwards.

Ngozi Eze

Family in London and Lagos · Lagos

“My mother needed her prescription, not in six weeks. Somebody was already flying. The money sat with Waybridge until it was in her hands.”

A repeat prescription that could not wait for sea freight and was not worth air freight. Ngozi posted it as a traveller request with a reward attached.

It was taken by a verified traveller flying Heathrow to Lagos two days later, inspected unsealed at handover, and delivered the evening it landed. The reward was held in escrow the whole time and released once Ngozi confirmed her mother had it.

Funmi Ajayi

Furnishing a new flat · Lagos

“I was about to import a television. They found the same one in Ikeja for less than the duty would have been.”

Funmi asked for a quote on a 55-inch television from a US retailer. The answer came back with a second option attached: the same model, in stock in Lagos, delivered the next working day.

It skipped shipping and customs entirely. Waybridge made less on it than the import would have earned them, which is the point — the alternative was a customer who felt sold to.
